Meet the Founder

Our founder Susan Adams is an environmentalist, TED speaker and educator in conservation and climate change. Her first and foremost love is nature and the natural world which was inspired through working and volunteering in Dublin Zoo, college and from worldwide travel.

Sue feels very passionate about educating and inspiring young people to develop awareness and knowledge of issues and to form a personal and ethical relationship with the environment that leads to actions that create a sustainable planet for now and in the future. In her personal life, Sue’s enthusiasm towards sustainable living was driven by her four children. As they progressed through the national curriculum, Sue became aware of the deficit of action-based environmental education in schools.

Her research revealed there was a lack of time and expertise for teachers to deliver climate literacy programmes and a lack of teacher training on the multi dimensions of the climate crisis. She also found that many young people were suffering from eco-anxiety and that there was a lack of opportunities for them to address this by taking action with and for their local communities.

With this in mind, Sue decided to take action herself and she started up this social enterprise business. Education for Sustainability is focused on making meaningful change in the lives and the communities we work with through the lens of climate action and sustainable development.

Since 2017, our workshops, teacher training and our climate literacy course have impacted thousands of people in schools and communities all over Ireland. We are really proud of what we have achieved so far and we are excited to expand our reach as the social enterprise grows.

Sue lives in Dublin with her husband, 4 children and their dog. She spends her weekends outside enjoying nature, cycling and swimming in the sea.
